A son of a biologist, Henry Strange spent much of his youth in his father’s laboratory counting fish eggs. Following his father’s footsteps, he was destined to become a breakthrough neuroscientist. But much like his father who was also a painter, Henry had a creative side, a love for music. He performed classical guitar and drums in rock bands for many years from youth throughout college. Soon, he became weary of running animal mazes and dissecting bird brains, but also became weary of the unevolving sound of rock music. That was when both worlds, art and science came together for him at SYCOM, the electronic music laboratory of his college.

Henry spent sleepless nights in the studio with old modular synthesizers studying the science of sound and synthesis. There he found his love for the avant-garde, which gave him a new focus to compose music with an experimental edge. He continued to produce several albums, and a series of experimental concerts in surround, sound and visual installations, and eventually started Pure Tone Productions, Inc. a production company devoted to the research of sound and the production of modern music.

At Pure Tone he adapted his experimental sound to commercial projects; scoring independent films, writing for television, producing artists, remixing, and sound design. He’s worked on a remix of ‘One More Chance’ for Michael Jackson, wrote themes for a science television show ‘Beyond Science’, worked on features like Wes Craven’s ‘Cursed’ and ‘Red Eye’.  An have written for Bruckheimer’s television drama ‘Cold Case’.

Beyond composing for media, Henry continues his quest as an performing artist, scratching a Theremin, live processing and arranging a blend of hip hop and experimental textures, angular beats, and vocoded beatbox.  He has performed live at grand festivals like Coachella, Burning Man, and countless venues all over the east and west coasts.  He also performs often as a master percussionist, for studios and other film composers, live for other artists and DJs.  Henry, his studio, and his latest release ‘Trace Element, Human’ has been featured in magazines like Electronic Musician and Keyboard.

By day Henry is the coordinator of the electronic music producer program at the SAE Instititue in Los Angeles where he hosts and performs in a monthly Experimental Music surround sound concert.  Beyond his cutting edge composition, Henry has worked in many studios as an engineer and is a master at recording and production. He uses the most modern technologies, and composes regularly in surround. Henry resides in Los Angeles, fullfilling his destiny to create a new sound.
